Situated in the Spanish province of Tarragona,
Catalonia, Reus is the capital of the comarca of Baix Camp.
A Spanish comarca is a rough equivalent of a US “county”
or a UK “shire.” The altitude of Reus above the
sea level is 117 metres. A recent estimate puts the population
of the city at 100,000. Reus is a lively commercial city,
and its people are known to be open-minded and friendly. Besides
being a trade-centre, Reus also has a rich cultural history.
In early nineteenth century, buildings in this Spanish city
were designed after the avant-garde modern style. The influence
of this art-style is evident in the architecture of many important
monuments of the city.
Reus has always been a producer of fine wines and spirits.
During the times of the Phylloxera plague (in the 1800s),
the city was recognized as an important centre of trade in
Europe.
Of late, the tourism industry in Reus has prospered as more
and more tourists from around the world visit the city to
see the Costa Dorada—the 216 kilometer long coastline
brushing Catalonia—or long for the cozy winter sun in
this picturesque city. Reus, now, is widely recognized as
an important holiday-destination for the travel-savvy.
If you’re longing for a vacation that will help you
unwind, Reus is the place to be. This is one place you’ll
remember for life.
