North shore of the Mar Menor, built at an intentional location,
the Maurcia Airport, also known as San Javier Airport is jointly
used as an air base by the civil traffic and as an airport.
San Javier airport has served huge passenger traffic and today
it has become one of the most fundamental air nodes for holiday
and leisure transport to and from the region of Murcia, as
can be proved from the linear growth in the travel graph.
To manage the ever increasing traffic, the airport went under
terminal expansion in June 2004, with an addition 1,100 square
meters in the arrivals area as well as office spaces for four
car hire companies and five shops were also constructed.
